After 3 days of heavy downpour on diwali eve, rain god has paid another visit over chittoor. Sunday morning started with showers that continued unabated till late evening.
With met department predicting another 2 days of heavy rains, all tanks in and around chittoor are filled to the brink. Kalavakunta reservoir is almost full and irrigation authorities are watching closely the inflow. The gates might be lifted on Monday evening if same inflow continues.
Though few people are inconvenienced by this rains, most of the population of chittoor are joyous as they have faced severe water scarcity for the past few years. Better preparations by desilting of all the tanks in and around chittoor would have greatly helped in storing more water and thereby increasing ground water levels.
