CHITTOOR RAILWAY STATION -A Transformation

Here is the transformation of Chittoor Railway Station seen through pictures :

Chittoor has been an important railway station in madras presidency built and maintained by The Great South Indian Railway Company headquartered in Madras.



After independence the railway line and station were transferred to Indian railways. Due to geopolitical reasons development almost stalled for decades together. Only one express (Meenakshi) and 2-3 pairs of metre gauge passengers used to run in this line.

The proposals for gauge conversion started in 1980s and continuously delayed till 2003 when finally it was completed and inagurated on August 22nd




AFTER BROAD GAUGE CONVERSION
 


As this line forms and important connection between North and South and reduces 51 KMS in distance the electrification work immediately started. Tata projects was awarded contract and electrification was finally completed in 2007 and was inagurated by Lalu Prasad Yadav on December 8th. Still the station lacked most of the facilities. The platforms 2/3 which had cover over platforms even during metre gauge period was left bland.




AFTER ELECTRIFICATION
 


Many long distance trains were diverted in this route. As the revenues incresed many fold, The Chittoor station was declared A class Commercial station.In the last 4 years Chittoor railway station has witnessed rapid transformation.
*The Cover over platforms was extended on Platform one, and also provided on  Platforms 2/3.
*The platform lighting was replaced by modern and efficient fluoroscent lights.
*Train information display boards and coach guidance boards are provided throughout the station.
*The jaggery godowns on railway station road were shifted, and new parks were developed on either side.

Around 40 trains run on this route daily. The proposals for doubling the track has already been submitted to railway board. Yet lot need to be done as only thing we are lacking is political will and support.

CRTA (Chittoor Rail Travellers Association) was formed for this purpose, and is a group of voluntary people from Chittoor, constatntly trying to update railway authorities regarding problems in Chittoor railway station and appealing for improved facilities. Currently we are trying for

1. Fast action for doubling the route.
2. The station building is same since independence. Nothing has improved even with incresed trains and subsequent passengers. The station building and circulating area needs lot of improvement.
3. Several trains including Madurai-Tirupati, Yeswantpur-Howrah, Rameshwaram-Okha via Shirdi, Tata-Yeswantpur donot have stoppage at Chittoor.
4. The reservation counter is very much crowded and is obstructing the passenger movement. It needs to be immediately shifted.
5. The platform edges are damaged and cracked. Anti slip Tiles needs to be immediately provided.

    1. Extension of platform 1 towards katpadi end to accomadate 24 coaches
    2. Lighting and beautification of platforms and main buiding

  10. As things are seen,4 laning of CB Rd(Corner bungalow )has started..

    JCB was left out on the road side,after a furlong (200m) has been dug out(2feet deep).
    Lets hope roads in CTR would develop invariably as per the existing demands.

    Recently 2.75cr has been taken from CM for the development of ctr roads..no clue whats the configuration they are abt to spend for..

    Two bridges on TTN (tiruttani/ARK) road are going to be bi laned ,but the date of completion seems to be too large,with 1yrs time
    Local rep ,as reportedly had met with SP,CLCTR requesting them to take actions to minimize the traffic.

    Former has very little to do with this,as without wide enough roads,what can some person do to minimize the traffic.Probably latter whos working on PADA can extend his view n discretion to intiate steps to expand the roads,Actually its very late him to react upon,how could he go so unseen from his bungalow to office,Atleast he should have taken this to higher authorities/CM’s peshi,b4 city status can be conferred upon..

    1)MSR 2)Gandhi 3)Phoole 4)SCRR(Sir CR Reddy )circles,should be widened n come up with FOBs..with roads widened

    Remember SS raut,ex clctr ,now in CM’s peshi.knows the situation here as well..

    MP for the first time giving assurance that he would meet up Minister of state for Railways to construct ROB,(probably after demolishing the existing one,).Lets hope they would come up with a wider/4 lane brige…
    Also he quoted that we would try to request for stoppage of nonstopping express trains @ CTR.
    For the first time ever,he expressed his dissatisfaction of AP govt for less care/interest with CTR in comparison to TPT,,Thanks atleast he realized by now,

    Titan said to be its first showroom in the dt,has come up on PH Road.

    Ayush ,a superspeciality Ayurvedic hospital work @GH premises is to come up,wish this would work /serve people effectively.

    As NAG comes under SR,he has brought out this route from Tindivanam to Nagari via VandaVaasi,Cheyyar,Arcot,Ranipet,Ammoor,Sholingur,RKPet,Nochili/Athimanjeri Pet,Pallipat..
    This track runs along the other side of the pallipat river ( without crossing it) till Nagari.
    Once it gets finished we can reach Pondy by boarding either @ Arcot/sholingur./Nochili(Balija Kandriga)

  13. Yes, After allowing Mr.Rajeev Gandhi to breathe ,after a decade,they have up come up with completion of Fountain set up,at this RG Cr @ MSR ,adjoining DEO Office.

    This part of NH4 between PLMR – KAR border ,expected to broadened starting DEC,as reporteded in dailies..

    CTRians would miss on this lonely Adult Movie Paradise of the city,possibly forever since now,Ex Ananda,now renovated in the name of Anand(Recalling a cpl of movies watched in early adolescence ,sneaking n hiding till we could enter the hall)..

    This has started screening its first normal genre movie,the pakala based fresh face directed Movie “Bejawaada”,since today,.

    Apurva Bramhaandam ,another textile shop ,on Church St,just opp to Apurva tex, has opened recently,.

    Following the ex clctr, V.Seshadri,Pradyumna, a few best we got,SP,Mr,Kranti Tata working innovative delivering well to CTR dt..(Pradyumna continuing to work in his own style bringing major reforms in Raytu Bazaars,as its CEO).

    As we all know,Auditorium @RG Cr,RTA,CMC, all seems ready for opening

  17. MP tells he has taken the stoppages @CTR ,construction of ROBs on NH18,to the notice of Railway minister for state.

    SHG(Self Helping Woman) CTR group doing excellent in the state,shows desperate we need a stimulus/

    Money is vested to buy people(Ctrian got into news for marriage with relatively too younger gal),is uncomfortable to know abt

    Money spending in the temples can be utilized to support n encourage downtrodden,underprivileged in collaboration with NGOs,/social working groups,, Amma Vodi the best,Jains doing a fairly good job,well serving edu institutions(public/charity..like tapovanam,Sherman)

    Infact Andhrajyothi bureau coming up with nice idea of supporting/developing your own institution, Municipal schools in the city need better infra,

    Inappropriate existence of schools is another major prob,
    RamNagar, a rich colony,admist of which a MPP school continuing with less student strength(obviously) ,less than 10,
    Instead DEO or the authorities concerned, should have considered to shift or strengthen the education in middle class ,Lower Middle class areas like PST Ng,where pupil still away from quality educations

    As they have(MCI) come up with CET for Med Edu,why don’t Municipal authorities concentrate to provide uniform n standard Education in all forms of govt schools (Govt,Municipal,MPP,ZP) throught out the city,

    None of the 18 Model schools(in dt) which are expected to come up at 3 crore worth each,is close to CTR,,,,

    Girl Child Education atleast till graduation should be encouraged through all possible ways.

    Same applies to betterify the standard of medical services/facilities available within the city.

    After Municipal needs(drinking watere,Drains,sanitation,roads,Electricity) better food,medicine,Education from the govt,is what we can seek the support of the govt,

  19. In this time where we are habituated to speak all negative things abt Chittoor.,a few ,to cheerup ,feel good things,,,

    Though CTR is formed later to these municipalities, like Walaja,Gudiyattam(relatively 50+,30+ yrs older),CTR is relatively better developed,close to corporationisation.

    Even bigger towns like Kancheepuram,Cuddalore yet to corporationsed,for the reason..
    Same applies to a few municipalities of AP.


    Cost of living ,definitely with in the reach of average/medium earners with compatible quality,when compared to other bigger towns ,in the closet,for the same facilities

    Existence of Slums in lesser number when compared bigger towns/cities.

    Pledge an English Edn,simultaneously Published from top 3 metros of AP,has its branch opened opp Jeeva Karunya Sangam,Church street

    Mrs.G.Vani ,Vet.Surgeon,CTR,bagging national award for the second time in succession,is some thing heartening.Even shes well lauded for her approach with those who accompany the cattle.

  20. During chat with one of those municipal Employees,the business man on RG Road ,GPT has gone to Supreme to get the stay on Fourlaning RG road,from Chamanti pur – CLCTRT.

    Alternately,a 4 lane road from Techno school to meet Durga temple.if could be laid,from there till CLCTRT,shouldn’t be a big issue,for 4laning.

  21. why its being delayd issuing G.O. for chittoor corporation. no political or offical note on the proceeding have been spelled these days.

    i have seen new layouts are being developed around ctr .

    as we are seeing metros are suffering from traffic chaos due to 15 ft roads in layouts and increase in density of population with small/tiny sites.

    norms should be follwed in dvlpng ctr like:

    --all roads in newly develped layouts should be 30 ft wide.
    -- layout main road should be 80 ft.
    --and these roads should connect to 100ft road within 2 kms
    -- all ring roads and leading roads from centre to outskirts should be 150/200 ft road.
    ---for every 3/5 kms parks should be developed with not less than 30 acres of land.(i.e distance b/w park to park should be below 5 kms) dont support 2-5 acre parks of no use

    --- if plots of size 30X40 and above only are allowed approval the city grows wider and density of traffic will be less and greenery can be developed. in turn standard of living in this city will be improved. i.e we should not encourage 20X30 and lesser plots to be developed.

  22. the smaller size plots should be combined with the adjacent site to form bigger size.

    this inturn keeps the real estate price in control doesnt shoot up from common man.

    ie suppose the least purchasin capacity of a common is 12 lakhs.availability of land is on 30X 40 = 1200 sqft market demand keeps the price as 1000 per sq ft

    if 20 X 30 = 600sq ft are allowed market/demand makes the same common man to go for it but at the same they target the total money of him so the price is raised to RS. 2000 per sqft

    of cousrse we need to discuss much in all terms for final acceptable rule that should be brought into notice for the upcomming newly elected body

  23. i strongly beleive all the viewers of this blog want chittoor to be world class city in all terms. and each of us has a vision/perception/thought abt development that should take place in and around ctr. most of us are away from chittoor but don,t hesitate or fell shy in getting ur ideas to discuss in this blog.
    if we discuss it here the guys who were local/ who are able can bring it to the notice of the representatives.

    CTRians arent really coming forward to speak something related to ctr,even after so many posts,whatso ever,until we could open up n come forward with some useful concept "it cant be a single man's show" ,More over it should not be just limited to a newspage,it has more than that,
    I am sure lots of ctrians yearn for better ctr,its time to give a form for ur thoughts/ideas,Two of those who are successful till date 1.Venk,the blogget 2.N.praveen ,NGIT...we need many in this order to keep this dying DHQ to retain its glory ....
