was laid. But after this, last Sunday the railway authorities sudenly
came with bulldozers etc and demolished all the jaggery godowns on
either side of the railway station road.
Going into details of it-in 1968 the railway authorities permitted
jaggery merchants to build godowns in railway land for a lease of 25
yrs. After the lease was expired, it was extended for another 5 years.
Ultimately with increasing passenger numbers and revenues, railways
reclaimed this land for development. This went into legal hurdles. But
once legal sanction was obtained the demolitions took place.
Though it's good thing that railway station and premises will see
further development, sad thing is that merchants who lived for 40
years are suddenly displaced. It would have been much better if they
would have been offered land near kattamanchi market yard. Which would
have made everyone happy.
Now to wait n watch what railway authorities are going to do with this
reclaimed land.
